Brandy Espresso Martini

Vigorously shaking this cocktail with ice creates a crema-like foam on top, like your favourite coffee-house drink. Because brandy adds richer flavour than the classic vodka base of this cocktail, we’ve substituted flavourful maple for simple syrup. You could also accent brandy’s fruity flavour with an orange twist in addition to the classic coffee bean garnish.

Makes 1 cocktail

1 1/4 oz grape brandy or Cognac
1/2 oz fresh espresso, cooled
1/2 oz coffee liqueur
1/4 oz golden (light) maple syrup
Coffee beans, for garnish
Orange peel twist, for garnish (optional)

1 Measure all ingredients except garnishes into a cocktail shaker full of ice.

2 Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.

3 Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a few coffee beans and an orange twist, if desired.
