Whisky Spritz
Just because things are cooling down doesn’t mean we have to give up our favourite summer refresher — the classic spritz. It’s a versatile drink which makes it easy to re-imagine as an autumn cocktail, like this Whisky Spritz, made with Canadian whisky, dry hard apple cider, and a dash of baking spice. Try serving it with our Smoked Cheddar, Caramelized Onion & Apple Grilled Cheese.
Recipe
1 oz Canadian whisky
½ oz cinnamon-vanilla syrup
4 oz hard cider
1 lemon slice
Thinly sliced apple for garnish
1 star anise for garnish
A tiny dusting of freshly ground nutmeg for garnish
Fill a Collins glass halfway full with cracked ice. Pour in whisky, cinnamon-vanilla syrup and cider. Squeeze in juice from lemon slice. Stir for five seconds. Pack the glass with more ice and garnish
with fanned apple slices and star anise. Grate nutmeg overtop.

Cinnamon-Vanilla Syrup
Stir 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar and ½ cup (125 mL) water with 4 cinnamon sticks and ½ tsp (2 mL) vanilla extract in a saucepan. Heat over low until sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Remove and discard cinnamon sticks. Adding 1 oz vodka to the bottle will help preserve the syrup. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
