Making dishes in advance helps ease the stress of serving guests, so why not prepare a batch of cocktails too? A pitcher of punch can be kept overnight in the fridge and will actually enhance the taste of the fruit as it marinates in the liquid.

Serves 6

To a pitcher, add 1 cup icewine, 2 oz brandy, 2 cups cranberry juice, 2 oz lime juice, 1 oz grenadine. Add ½ cup seedless grapes and slices of orange, lime, kiwi and strawberries. To serve, pour punch into glass with ice, and top with a splash of soda. Garnish with the marinated fruit.
