Frozen Melon Martini
Summer 2005
Serve this frozen treat in a Martini glass to sip the sweet wine after all the melon has been enjoyed. On a hot summer night the melon will cool your palate and the sparkling wine - we used Petalo Il Vino dell'Amore Moscato - will be enriched with melon flavour to keep you cool that much longer. For another use for the melon balls, simply freeze them solid and use in place of ice cubes to add to summer wines and cocktails.
Makes 8 servings
¼ large honeydew melon
¼ seedless watermelon
1½ cups (375 mL) sparkling sweet Moscato wine
1. Using a melon baller or a 1 tsp (5 mL) measuring spoon, scoop out small balls of honeydew melon to make about 3 cups (750 mL). Place on half of a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
2. Repeat using melon baller with watermelon to make about 5 cups (1.25 L) and place on baking sheet.
3. Freeze for about 20 minutes or until firm. Divide melon balls evenly among 8 Martini glasses. Gently pour over Moscato wine and serve immediately.
