The Classic Martini
Autumn 2013
The Martini glass shape is the icon of cocktail culture, and a classic Martini is considered the ultimate in style and taste. As we garnered a taste for quality and simplicity, creating the perfect Martini became a symbol of refinement and of a good bartender. Quite simply, there is nothing as exquisite as the first sip of the icy cold, clear liquid. The recipe is more than 100 years old, but the taste is still fresh and modern.
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 2 oz gin (or vodka) and 1/16 to ¼ oz dry vermouth (less for a dry Martini, more for a wet Martini, to taste). Stir gently until icy cold and strain into a Martini glass. Garnish with a gourmet olive or a lemon twist.
