Tegroni
There are practically endless ways to put a new twist on the classic Negroni, but one of the tastiest is swapping out the gin and using tequila in its place. The drink doesn’t need a lot of tweaking after that, but using a grapefruit twist instead of the usual orange adds a little extra brightness. Best of all, this flexible cocktail works perfectly with two different expressions of tequila — blanco and reposado. That’s the beauty of the timeless Negroni formula — it was created over a century ago and it’s still somehow trending.
Recipe
Match the drink’s herb and grapefruit notes by serving it alongside these Asparagus Crostini with Grapefruit and Mint.
1 oz reposado or blanco tequila
1 oz Campari
1 oz sweet red vermouth (see tip below)
1 grapefruit twist
1. Add ice, tequila, Campari and sweet vermouth to a cocktail mixing glass. Stir for 30 seconds. Pour into an old-fashioned glass filled with three or four cubes of ice.
2. Express the oils from the grapefruit twist over the drink and then use it as a garnish.

TIP: This drink also works with dry (white) vermouth. There’s even a variation on this that uses ½ oz each of both sweet and dry vermouth that’s also very good. Feel free to experiment with new variations and flavours.
