This lower-alc cocktail earns its cocktail status thanks to some nuances that make it feel special. Add some sparkle to this classic cocktail by reducing the grapefruit and replacing with a bit of fizzy soda water. Next, add dimension by serving it in a glass that boasts a bold stripe of kosher salt.

Kosher salt for rimmer
1 grapefruit
½ oz vodka or gin
2 oz soda water, chilled
1. Place salt on a small plate. Cut grapefruit in half. Slice a thin piece from grapefruit and swipe up the side of a rocks glass reaching the rim. Dip and turn dampened area on glass in salt.
2. Squeeze 3 oz juice from grapefruit into a separate glass. Fill rimmed glass with ice. Pour in vodka. Top with grapefruit juice and soda water. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or twist, if desired.
Makes 1 drink
