French Connection
Not to be confused with the Godfather—a similar 1970s two-ingredient cocktail made with whisky and amaretto—the French Connection is simple, approachable and ideal for casual and cozy get-togethers. This recipe raises the bar—and complexity—with the addition of bitters and a grapefruit twist, but both of these flavour-enhancing ingredients should be considered totally optional. Serve it with a decadent dessert, such as a luxe chocolate mousse.
Recipe
6 oz brandy
3 oz amaretto
16 drops coffee bitters
4 grapefruit twists for garnish
Stir brandy, amaretto and bitters together over ice in a mixing glass for 45 seconds. Strain into chilled carafe. Pour into four ice-filled rocks glasses and garnish each with a grapefruit twist.

TIP: This recipe can be easily scaled up or down, and best of all, can be made well in advance and stored in the refrigerator or freezer until guests arrive.
