1. Crosscut Distillery
Attached to the distillery, Crosscut’s tasting room is surrounded by aging barrels. Pull up a bar stool and sample award-winning sips distilled with Canadian botanicals. Each of these interesting spirits (including gin and vodka) is excellent for mixing up a great cocktail — which you can get there too!
2. 3 Cows and a Cone
From the retro sign outside to the selection of scoops and milkshakes, this classic ice cream joint would please any nostalgic person with a sweet tooth.
3. The Island Jar + Heartwood Mushrooms
In the heart of Little Current, on the island, is a hub of local goods. Find it all: tasty lunch offerings, locally made kombucha, jellies, smoked trout, game meat, dried herbs (indigenous to Canada) and locally grown produce, including Heartwood Mushrooms’ picture-perfect fungi.
4. Manitoulin Brewing Co.
Each of the tasty brews made here is a Manitoulin namesake, such as Haw Eaters’ Brew (a homage to the history of hawberry consumption on the island) and Swing Bridge (a local landmark). Stop by to try the seasonal beers and go-to classics. Or chow down on hearty fare from the Trough on the patio.
5. Great Spirit Circle Trail: Bannock & Berries
Learn about the traditions and making of bannock (cooked over a flaming-hot grill) and then savour it with tea and jam when you sign up for a Bannock & Berries experience.
