LCBO Statement Regarding On-Demand Delivery of Beverage Alcohol Products in Ontario

TORONTO, January 9, 2023 – The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issues licences that allow parties to deliver beverage alcohol product to customers for a fee and fulfill their orders in LCBO stores, or from other retailers and restaurants licensed by AGCO. As part of their AGCO licence, all liquor delivery service providers are required to meet social responsibility requirements, such as ensuring recipients of orders are of legal drinking age and not intoxicated.

For some time, many providers, including Uber Eats, have been offering this service in accordance with their AGCO licence, without any formal partnership with LCBO.

As part of LCBO’s ongoing commitment to serve our customers where, when, and how they want to shop with us, we launched a time-limited pilot program in December 2022 for eligible On-Demand Delivery Service companies in the Ontario marketplace. The program is intended to clarify and improve the customer experience by allowing eligible On-Demand Delivery Services to use LCBO’s name and logo. LCBO provides product and retail location selection guidance but is not involved in the fulfilment of orders.

At this time, Uber Eats is not part of this program.
