Product Details

The Quijada family has very old carmenere vineyards in the Apalta zone of the Colchagua Valley and has been selling fruit to Santa Rita since the 1990s, and a selection of those grapes has been going into Pewën, the house's top carmenere, since 2004. The style of this red has changed a lot, however, especially since the 2017 vintage, when winemaker Sebastián Labbé decided to move the harvest date forward and basically stop fearing the variety's herbal notes. In this new vintage, the herbal notes happily coexist with the flavors of ripe red fruits, firm tannins, and the energetic sensation that the acidity brings to a wine that seems to be light, although behind its tannins and acidity hides a tension that's unusual in this variety. The rest are delicious flavors of red fruits that accompany to the finish. [Drink through early 2030s+] Score - 97. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2023)
