The 2018 Moscofilero (as Skouras spells it) comes in with four grams of residual sugar, 6.6 grams of total acidity and 12% alcohol. George Skouras called this a rainy vintage (which he sought to combat in various ways described in the producer note this issue), but this is a pretty good result. In fact, you might want to buy a lot to drink over the next couple of years. They say fine wineries show their stuff in tough years. I guess Skouras is pretty good. The wine is sweeter (that's a relative term) and rounder than the Salto this issue, which is mostly normal. It is a little less distinguished in some respects-power and persistence-but utterly delicious and far fruitier. Despite the sweet (again, a relative term) young fruit up front, it acquires more distinction as it airs and warms, showing stonewashed hints as well. It was more interesting the next day. The aromatics are always great. This is probably a more crowd-pleasing style than the 2017 Salto this issue, but it is hardly simple. In its youth, this is pretty irresistible. Drink it on the younger side for best results, but this screwcapped Moschofilero can hold a bit, if you must. Drink Date: 2019-2023. Score - 90. (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, April 30, 2019)
