I'm highly impressed with Silver Oak's 2014 Napa cabernet, falling neatly into the historical house line with its youthful, resinous, American oak-influenced profile. But it's the genuine acids and finessed tannins that make the difference between commercial and artisanal - this shows a deft hand in the cellar and most importantly, excellent farming. There's an easy, natural feel to the wine, a slipperiness and juiciness that's hard to manufacture - it comes from place and farming. Length is excellent, without the need for excessive ripeness or alcohol to carry it home (14.2% declared), while complexity is still in stages of development. Cellar until at least 2024, or hold into the mid-thirties without concern. Score - 95. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Nov. 4, 2019)
