96-98 points Wine Advocate. 'A field blend of old vines (including all sorts of interesting grapes like Tinta da Barca, Bastardo, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Pomar, Mourisco, etc.), with 35% Tinta Amarela, aged for 12 months in 60% new French oak. There were just 375 cases produced. Tightly wound, this is always one of the Grande Reservas that shows fine mid-palate finesse, but it is so dense and concentrated this year, at least in perception, that finesse won't be the first impression, at least in its youth. The second impression will be its pure power. It is certainly competing for the most powerful wine here. Unevolved, burly and simply too young, this was a few weeks from bottling when seen. It looks pretty brilliant, but it certainly wasn't harmonious or fully expressive. Plan on cellaring it for a few years.'
