Angelo Gaja is considered one of the principal voices behind the emergence of Barbaresco. In 1975, he employed barriques in the vinification of his Barbaresco cuvée and is widely held to have introduced the technique to the area. His aim was to moderate the considerable tannins found in Nebbiolo and deliver a fruitier, richer expression than had been traditionally accomplished. He was also instrumental in introducing new initiatives such as limiting crop size, decreasing the length of fermentation, and using new pruning methods. You will find this wine to be exotically flavoured, elegant and balanced, with red fruit and meaty tones.
