The 2017 Beaune Clos du Roi 1er Cru contains around 40% whole cluster fruit from the first red vineyard picked by the domaine, as the pH goes up quickly here, and matured in 30% new oak. It has an attractive bouquet of raspberry coulis, crushed strawberry and perhaps a little more sous-bois/tobacco than the Teurons by comparison. The harmonious palate is nicely structured with a fine bead of acidity and a precise and quite persistent finish. Excellent. Drinking window: 2021-2035. Score - 90-92.
