Chante Perdrix's 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the few wines in the appellation to contain an appreciable proportion of Muscardin (a whopping 5%). The balance this year is Grenache (65%), Mourvèdre (15%) and Syrah (15%). Full-bodied and opulent without being overly concentrated or heavy, it's a big, ripe wine with supple tannins for drinking over the near term. Dried cherries, leather and spice notes speak of the traditional blend and elevage, finishing with hints of licorice and warmth. Drink date: 2020-2027. Score - 91.
