South African winemakers are creating ever more consistent and exciting red blends, as well as crafting modern, approachable wines without sacrificing a sense of place. This one is mostly Shiraz, with Grenache, Malbec and Touriga Nacional making up the balance. It offers considerable value, with red fruit, dark cherry, earth and smoke, plus a hint of coffee on the long finish. Pair with grilled lamb. (Vintages panel, Jan. 2020)
