Here's a great example of the uncanny finesse that can be displayed by the best Barolos. From a lower, more protected and warm slope with clay limestone and some marl, the single vineyard Rocche dell Annunziata is just a bit more supple and rich than the top of hill Barolo in the same vintage. It pours with the same dusty/earthy nose of red cherry, herbs, tar, balsamic and tobacco, and continues to expand with aeration. It is medium weight and almost delicate feel, despite being underpinned by firm, souring acidity and considerable alcohol warmth. Tannins are firm yet very fine grained. Excellent to outstanding length. Best 2023 to beyond 2030. Score - 94. (David Lawrason, winealign.com, March 5, 2021)
