The Spirit of the North
Winter 2014
Spicy, icy and a wee bit sweet, this Canadian cocktail is simple to make. If you can’t find Sortilege at the LCBO, substitute with about 2 oz (60 mL) of pure maple syrup and, to take down the alcohol content, use non-alcoholic ginger beer.
Serves 6
9 oz (250 mL) Canadian Club rye
3 cups (750 mL) Crabbie’s AlcoholicGinger Beer
3 oz (90 mL) Sortilege
6 lemon wedges, washed first
Ice
1 Add the rye, ginger beer and Sortilege to a jug and give it a stir. Set aside.
2 Add a few cubes of ice to 6 rocks glasses, squeeze the juice from the lemon wedge into the glass and drop the wedge in.
3 Top with the rye mixture and serve.
