Here Primitivo, known in California as Zinfandel, is treated to four months in French oak barrels, bringing notes of toasty vanilla to a juicy core of ripe red fruit, plum and licorice. Hints of spicy pepper and orange pekoe tea ramp the complexity up a notch. Great for a steak salad with tomatoes and burrata. (Vintages panel, Jan. 2020)
