Sauvignon gris is not a common variety in Chile, although it was until the 1980s, when it slowly began to be replaced by the more fashionable sauvignon blanc or chardonnay. There's a legacy of old vines throughout the Central Valley, however, and Casa Silva has an old vineyard beside its winery in Colchagua that was planted to the grape in 1912, and that's where it gets this delicious white, a Descorchados favorite. This vintage has a special grip, perhaps due to the year's lower yields (30% less than the previous year), and intense freshness supported by penetrating, juicy acidity. The fruity aromas meld with the spicy notes, and the finish is accompanied by that festive acidity that invites a second glass. Score - 93. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2021)
