Founded in 1902, the Saiya Brewery is one of the world's most award-winning kuras, or sake producers. Yuri Masamune is their original brand and a favourite of Akita locals. This sake is a honjozo, which means that a very small amount of distilled alcohol is added to the brew during the final stage of fermentation. This yields a lighter, more fragrant sake. Both mellow and rustic, this sake has aromas of cantaloupe and honeydew. This fruitiness is balanced by nutty and earthy flavours on the palate. Enjoyable at a range of temperatures-from well-chilled to gently warmed. Try this sake with grilled fish, marcona almonds, tempura, or even Spanish tapas.
