The tequila is light enough to allow the dill and caraway of the aquavit to shine, yet robust enough to stand up to the Averna, which adds a bitterness without compromising the balance and sweetness of the drink. “Tequila has a dynamic profile that lends itself well to mixing with almost any other spirit,” says De Almeida. “It’s one of my favourite spirits to play around with.” She recommends using Los Arango Reposado tequila for this drink because its slightly peppery finish works nicely with the dill from the aquavit.

⅔ oz Aalborg Akvavit
⅔ oz Averna
⅔ oz Los Arango Reposado Tequila
1 slice orange rind

1 Stir spirits over large chunks of ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. Squeeze orange rind over drink to release oils, then toss rind into drink as a garnish.
