Hot Toddy
Autumn 2020
When the mercury drops into sweater weather, nothing says cozy like a Hot Toddy.
1 oz of whisky
4 to 6 oz of hot water
Honey
Slice of lemon
A classic Toddy takes 1 oz of whisky with 4 to 6 oz of hot water; sweeten to taste with honey and add a slice of lemon. Done!
For a twist, you could use brandy or Calvados with warmed sweet cider, and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Or try aged rum with black tea, brown sugar and a few cloves.
Two Toddy tips to think about: first, it’s best to put spirits separately into the mug so the alcohol doesn’t evaporate on the stovetop; second, if you’re infusing the drink with whole spices, add them at the end as a garnish so they don’t overpower the drink.
