Fruity Street Salad
Early Summer 2015
Thick batons of watermelon, pineapple and jicama, dipped in lime and spice, are the Mexico City street food version of salad. There, they are served in little plastic bags, but feel free to serve them in colourful cups. Tajin is a unique spice chili-lime blend available at many No Frills, Fiesta Farms and specialty food shops.
Serves 6
½ small seedless watermelon, flesh cut into batons 3 inches (8 cm) long x ½ inch (1 cm) thick
1 small pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into batons 3 inches (8 cm) long x ½ inch (1 cm) thick
1 small jicama, peeled and cut into batons
3 inches (8 cm) long x ½ inch (1 cm) thick
Juice of 2 limes
Tajin to taste
1 Prepare fruit and jicama and toss in lime juice.
2 Place in bowl or colourful plastic cups and sprinkle with a healthy dose of Tajin.
