This Erste-Lage ('premier cru') site on loess clay containing sandstone and quartzite is located at the top of the Rüdesheim, adjacent to a forest which encourages large diurnal temperature swings. Consequently, even during a long, hot summer such as 2018, this wine retains a glacial freshness and amazing balance. It has a lovely texture and good depth of flavour, with notes of apple, lime and even some apple skin. Creamy, woody hints fill out the wine on the mid-palate. This should be even more delicious in a few years. Tank sample. Drinking window: 2020-2033. Score - 93. (James Button, decanter.com, May 6, 2019)
