While the '96 from Nicolas Potel is in some respects really showing its age there are others that bely the convention. Pine forest, dried herbals and rose petals mingle with fungi in a pinot noir knowable as from the 90s but the freshness is preserved, especially on the palate. That evergreen repeats in a liquid chalky way but then again so does the tang, verve and vitality. The Savigny is a wine of two parts or sections and the kind of wood it remained housed in for quite some time surely has much to do or ado with how it relates in 2021.
