Honouring National Indigenous History Month

National Indigenous History Month is a significant occasion within the LCBO and throughout Ontario. It is a time where we honour the history of our province’s Indigenous communities, celebrate the vibrancy of Indigenous communities today and highlight our incredible partners who are working for the good of Ontario.

As an organization, we view National Indigenous History Month as an important moment to acknowledge that we are located on the customary and traditional lands of Indigenous Peoples where more than 40 treaties and other land agreements cover Ontario.

This month, and every month, we invite all Ontarians to join this effort and learn more about the work being done below.

Habitat for Humanity Canada

Habitat Canada helps build and rehabilitate decent and affordable homes, from single-family houses to multi-unit developments across Canada.

The LCBO donated $50,000 to Habitat Canada with $40,000 directly supporting the Indigenous Housing Partnership. This partnership creates housing solutions led by and for Indigenous communities. The LCBO’s support will help build more homes with Indigenous families in Southwestern Ontario.

Indspire

Indspire’s investment in education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people is designed for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada.

The LCBO’s donation of $75,000 in 2023 and 2024 will support Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries and Scholarship Award, which provides scholarships to Indigenous students (19+) attending post-secondary institutions across Ontario.

SickKids

We are proud to support SickKids Awards for Indigenous Nursing Students. This program advances diversity and inclusion in the healthcare sector by providing a $5,000 bursary to Indigenous nursing students who are interested in becoming paediatric acute care nurses at SickKids upon graduation. These programs particularly resonate with the LCBO, as we are committed to advancing diversity and inclusion within our organization and in the communities where we live and work.
