Here’s to infusing Ontario with opportunity

The LCBO is committed to building and fostering an employee and customer experience and sense of belonging that is rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion, where employees and customers are heard, respected and valued for their differences and where employees, regardless of their personal characteristics, can achieve their full potential.

We continue to deliver on and deepen this commitment through Spirit of Sustainability (SoS) partnerships and programs, and through our long-term plan to integrate DIBE principles into our DNA.

Spirit of Inclusion Initiative

As part of our commitment to enhance industry diversity, we’ve launched the Spirit of Inclusion Initiative, a program designed to create opportunities for diverse women to enter, advance and thrive in the beverage alcohol industry. Together with our impact partners, the program will provide bursaries and scholarships, facilitate mentorship relationships, and identify paid co-op placements for diverse women who are looking to begin or advance their careers in the winery, brewery, and distillery fields.

BlackNorth Initiative

We are a proud signatory of the BlackNorth Initiative (BNI) CEO Pledge. As part of our continued efforts to champion DIBE, we committed to specific actions and targets designed to create opportunities for BIPOC (Black People, Indigenous Peoples and People of Colour) individuals through the support of BNI. It is our responsibility to enact meaningful change and take a collaborative approach with organizations who share our goal to end anti-Black systemic racism.
Led by the Canadian Council of Business Leaders, over 450 leading Canadian companies have signed the Pledge including beverage alcohol partners, charitable partners, and government agencies. As part of this commitment, we are encouraging our partners to explore the BlackNorth Initiatives’ mission and sign the Pledge to create better representation for BIPOC individuals in the beverage alcohol industry.

Equity Campaign with Women’s College Hospital Foundation

In support of International Women’s Day in March 2021, we launched our first Equity Campaign. The campaign raised over $4 million for Women’s College Hospital Foundation, supporting their mission to provide equitable and compassionate healthcare to women and marginalized communities. Donations from this campaign supported programs across the province, such as their Substance Use Service, which uses a holistic approach to helping those with substance-use disorders, as well as the Women’s College Research Institute, which is closing health gaps in diagnosis and clinical treatment for women in Ontario.

Proud Supporter of Pride

We are incredibly proud to be an official sponsor of Pride Toronto and to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community with our employees, customers, and partners. Our annual #ToastToPride campaign involves recognizing Good Partners who are giving back to the 2SLGBTQ+ community, sharing cocktail and mocktail recipes, supporting local bartenders and chefs, and working with our community partners to showcase and support Pride events and programming.

CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals

Through our partnership with CEE: Centre for Young Black Professionals, we provide essential education, skills training, and employment opportunities at the LCBO. Members of our HR leadership team have developed virtual sessions to offer support and guidance to members of CEE on their career path. This includes Resume Building and Interview Skills, Connect, Collaborate & Communicate Effectively Training, and 1:1 Resume Feedback & Mock Interview Sessions. Through SoS, we also made a $100,000 donation to CEE to help address economic and social barriers affecting Black Youth in Ontario.

Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30th, the LCBO recognized National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to learn and reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. In the continued spirit of reconciliation, SoS took action to support Indigenous communities across the province by donating over $100,000 to three charitable partners. This included Habitat for Humanity’s Indigenous Youth Skills Training Projects to engage Indigenous youth and women in skills training on Habitat build projects across Ontario, and reBOOT’s Community reLAY Program to hire an Indigenous youth as a Network Management Analyst, coordinating the installation and support for a free wireless internet hot spot in their community.

The LCBO is committed to providing its goods, services and communications in a way that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities. This commitment is integrated across the business to ensure that every employee and customer receives equitable treatment with respect to employment and services, without discrimination, and receives accommodation where required. This includes adhering to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to reduce and remove barriers for people with disabilities so that Ontario can become more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
