Recycling Across Ontario

Three billion containers and counting! LCBO sales of wine, beer and spirits result in more than 400 million waste containers every year. This amounts to 3 billion glass bottles and aluminum cans being recycled.

Through the LCBO’s funding of the Ontario Deposit Return Program (ODRP) and municipal curbside Blue Box programs, we are ensuring that more than 93 per cent of the bottles and cans we generate are recycled and kept away from landfill. Read more about Bag It Back.

Since the start of the ODRP program in 2007, an impressive 3 billion containers have been sorted for optimum recycling use and diverted from landfill. Glass bottles are being turned into new bottles, aluminum into new cans and other manufactured goods, and PET plastic bottles into textiles and packaging.

Our recycling efforts don’t stop there. The LCBO also recycles almost all of its cardboard, plastic shrink-wrap, paper, defective alcohol, batteries and electronic waste.

LCBO’S support to Blue Box programs also ensures that all of the marketing and promotional resources we produce, such as Food & Drink magazine and newspaper inserts, are recycled across the province.

Our comprehensive waste-management program reflects a commitment to helping every community across the province reduce waste and promote recycling whenever possible.
