AGCO and LCBO offering joint industry information sessions to support Ontario’s alcohol retail expansion plans

May 24, 2024 - The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) are teaming up to help eligible businesses enter the expanded beverage alcohol retail marketplace, following the Government of Ontario’s announcement of its plan to provide increased consumer choice and convenience for Ontarians.

The AGCO will begin accepting applications for liquor retail licences from convenience and grocery stores on June 17, 2024. The AGCO and the LCBO are collaborating to offer joint information sessions to convenience stores and grocery store owners who are interested in selling beer, wine, cider, and other low-alcohol ready-to-drink beverages. The information sessions will cover eligibility requirements, the application process, legal requirements, and the end-to-end journey to become responsible private retailers of beverage alcohol in the province. Both provincial agencies are committed to working closely with new and existing licensed retailers to provide the information and resources they need to participate in the market safely and efficiently.

As the regulator overseeing the sale and service of alcohol in the province, the AGCO remains committed to regulating the expanded liquor retail marketplace in a way that promotes the safe and responsible sale of alcohol, while supporting the government’s objectives.

As the exclusive wholesaler of beverage alcohol, the LCBO is committed to helping new licensed retailers do business with the LCBO. From product ordering through to fulfillment and delivery, the LCBO provides day-to-day support and service.
