LCBO’S GIVING BACK IN OUR COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN RAISES $5.8 MILLION
Annual fundraiser sets new campaign record in support of MADD Canada and Ontario’s Regional Children’s Hospitals
TORONTO, ON – February 2, 2018: LCBO customers and staff have once again proven just how generous and dedicated they are to supporting the communities in which we live and work. The totals are in and, this year, the organization’s annual Giving Back in Our Community campaign raised a record-breaking $5.8 million. Funds collected through the in-store campaign, which took place through December, benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada), Children’s Health Foundation, McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation, SickKids Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation.
“We’ve been running the Giving Back in Our Community campaign for eighteen years and to celebrate a milestone in our fundraising with a new record is humbling. The impact our five charity partners have in the communities they serve and to the children and families they support is immeasurable and we are so proud to enable their important work,” said George Soleas, President & CEO, LCBO. “Thank you to each and every LCBO staff member who asked and to each and every customer who gave. We know there are many opportunities to give over the holiday season and appreciate every contribution to our Giving Back in Our Community campaign.”
Money raised from the campaign is directed to MADD Canada in support of the School Assembly program, which engages over half a million students every year in making smart choices to prevent impaired driving, and the newly-launched SmartWheels mobile RV classroom, which visits elementary schools across the province and, through an interactive experience, educates students about risks and responsibilities at an even earlier age.
Fundraising efforts also help improve the lives of thousands of children who rely on health care professionals at Ontario’s four regional children’s hospitals, for specialized treatment, therapy and services. Proceeds support alcohol-related education, treatment and prevention programs, much needed hospital equipment and ground-breaking research.
Details on specific allocations to each charity will be announced in the coming weeks.
