LCBO KOSHER FOR PASSOVER SELECTION SHOWCASES DIVERSITY OF ISRAELI WINES
March 25, 2015
In time for Passover, which begins on Friday April 3, the LCBO is adding 30 seasonal releases to an already diverse selection of kosher products.
Despite its relatively small geographic footprint, Israel is home to a remarkable number of mesoclimates, allowing both warm and cool climate grape varietals to thrive. Winemakers are growing Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Pinot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with great success – producing wines of great expression and character. This year’s seasonal selection of kosher wines focuses on products from Israel, with additional offerings from Spain, South Africa, New Zealand and California.
“Israeli winemaking has experienced a transformation in the past two decades, focusing on creating quality wines for everyday use,” says Shari Mogk-Edwards, Vice President, LCBO Products, Sales and Merchandising. “Winemakers are taking advantage of Israel’s Mediterranean climate, with its wet winters and humid summers, to create diverse, food-friendly wines that are a great value at Passover and year round.”
In addition to the 43 kosher products available throughout the year, a mixture of new listings and familiar favorites is being released through LCBO and vintages to coincide with Passover. These include premium quality red and white wines, fortified wines, sparkling wine and a rare kosher Icewine, as well as spirits including Vodka, Cognac, Brandy and Amaretto liqueur. Wines start at under $10, while spirits are in the $30-$70 price range.
Featured premium products from Israel include a Pinot Noir, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a selection of red and white blends:
• Hermon Mount Hermon White KP 2013 $20.95
• Tabor Galil Cabernet Sauvignon KP 2013 $20.95
• Galil Mountain Pinot Noir KP 2012 $22.95
• Segal’s Merlot/Cabernet Franc/ Cabernet Sauvignon KPM 2011 $22.95
• Tabor Adama Merlot KP 2010 $26.95
Varied quantities of kosher products are available in more than 500 LCBO stores across the province, with the largest selection available at three GTA stores: 180 Promenade Circle (Promenade Mall) in Thornhill, 1838 Avenue Road (south of Wilson Avenue) and 675 Wilson Avenue in North York.
