Toasting with Ontario sparkling wine, the LCBO today officially opened its new store in Toronto’s Greektown at 200 Danforth Avenue. LCBO has 139 stores serving the GTA.
This 13,000 square-foot store has a selection of 1,900 wines, spirits, beers, ready-to-drink cocktails, coolers and beverage gift packs, more than double the former Danforth Avenue store, and more than 550 VINTAGES premium wines and spirits, a 10-fold increase. The product selection includes many Greek wines, spirits and beers.
“This new store significantly increases responsible beverage alcohol service to the vibrant Danforth Avenue, providing convenient one-stop shopping for area residents,” said Bob Peter, LCBO President & CEO. “New and renovated stores like this contribute to high levels of customer satisfaction and have helped LCBO deliver 18 consecutive record dividend transfers to the province, including an all-time high $1.6 billion dividend in fiscal 2011-12.”
Joining Bob Peter for the opening was Councillor Mary Fragedakis, Ward 29, and Marlene Stephens, MADD Toronto Chapter President.
“With its bike rings and landscaping, this impressive new store is a welcome addition to our close-knit community,” said Councillor Fragedakis. “We appreciate the wider product selection, greater convenience and knowledgeable, helpful and responsible service.”
“We are overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of LCBO customers and the dedication of its employees in raising a new record of more than $1,479,000 this past December during LCBO’s Giving Back in Our Community campaign,” said MADD Toronto Chapter President Marlene Stephens. “These funds will be dedicated to supporting MADD Canada’s School Assembly Program enabling MADD Canada to make 900 presentations of this film at absolutely no charge to the schools. This program ensures that more than half a million young people learn about the dangers of impaired driving and make responsible choices.”
Among the store’s many features is a large Ontario wine section at the front of the store with 350 Ontario wines, including 200 VQA wines and a walk-in cold room with a wide variety of domestic and imported beers and ready-to-drink cocktails and coolers. There is a gift section and a tasting bar.
“LCBO stores are no longer just about bottles on shelves,” notes Peter. “This is a place where you can get advice on planning a dinner party, improve your product knowledge and sample new and featured products from Ontario and more than 84 different countries.”
