Food insecurity means not knowing where your next meal is coming from. It is a serious issue that affects many individuals in communities throughout Ontario. According to Feed Ontario, the province saw more than 7.6 million food bank visits between April 2023 and March 2024, an increase of 31% from the previous year. These numbers reflect a growing crisis and one that resonates with employees across LCBO.
Earlier this year, when asked what charitable cause mattered to them most, 65% of LCBO retail employees polled chose food security. This commitment is at the heart of our 2025 Support Local fundraising campaign, a charitable partnership with Second Harvest, Feed Ontario and Right to Food. The fundraising campaign runs through October 13, 2025 and is an opportunity to come together, give back and make a difference. Donations help fund essential food programs, reduce waste, and build a healthier, more resilient Ontario.
LCBO is deeply rooted in communities across Ontario. Our mission goes beyond retail. It is about giving back. Through our Spirit of Sustainability (SoS), LCBO’s environmental, social and governance platform, our goal is to create a more sustainable future for Ontario. It’s our bold commitment to drive meaningful change in our communities, be the industry leader in sustainable practices and take better care of our planet – all for the good of Ontario.
Meet the Partners Making an Impact
Second Harvest
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue charity, operates in every province and territory. They work with businesses across the food supply chain to redirect surplus food to nonprofit organizations that feed communities across the country.
Their mission is to keep food where it belongs — on plates, not in landfills. Second Harvest also leads in research, education, and innovation to ensure food reaches vulnerable communities.
Feed Ontario
Feed Ontario represents more than 1,200 food banks and hunger-relief agencies across the province. They partner with farmers, grocers, and communities to deliver fresh food, provide training and grants, and advocate for long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.
Their vision is a province where everyone is food secure.
Right to Food
Right to Food builds health, belonging, and social justice in low-income communities through the power of food. They support nearly 400 partner organizations in creating Community Food Centres where people can access nutritious meals, learn new skills, and find peer support.
Their work is grounded in the belief that food is a basic human right.
Support Local with the 2025 LCBO Tote Bag
LCBO is introducing the annual Support Local tote bag designed in collaboration with local artists and with net proceeds supporting different Ontario charities every year.
This year’s, Support Local tote bag was designed by Ontario artist, Rachel Joanis, and celebrates the connection between the land of Ontario and the art of winemaking and distillation. With its vibrant, locally-inspired design, the tote is more than reusable, it is a symbol of your commitment to Ontario communities.
Net proceeds from the tote bag will support the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO), and their Farmer-Led Research Program, which helps farmers combine their curiosity with scientific rigour to answer their most challenging on-farm questions.
