Freedom of Information
Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) provides the public with a right of access to records held by provincial public sector organizations, including the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).
Requests can be made for the following types of LCBO information:
- General records held by the LCBO
- Your own personal information
- A correction to your personal information held by the LCBO
Freedom of Information Request Requirements
Freedom of Information (FOI) requests must:
- Be submitted in writing
- Provide sufficient detail to identify the information requested
- Include the mandatory $5 application fee
Application Fee
The $5 applicable fee may be paid using one of the following methods:
- Credit card through the LCBO’s secured payment system. Please contact our office by email at foi.privacy@lcbo.com or by telephone at 416-864-2462 to arrange a payment date and time.
- Cheque or money order payable to “LCBO” and mailed to our office (see address below).
For your security, please DO NOT include credit card information in voicemail messages or email communications. If you reach our voicemail, please leave your contact information and a staff member will return your call at the earliest possible opportunity.
Response Time and Additional Fees
Most FOI requests are responded to within 45 days. In certain circumstances, this time period may be extended as permitted under FIPPA.
Additional processing fees may apply in accordance with FIPPA. For example, if a request involves a large volume of records processing fees in addition to the mandatory $5 application fee may be charged. The LCBO will notify requesters if a time extension is required and/or additional processing fees may apply.
How to Submit a Freedom of Information Request
Freedom of Information (FOI) requests may be submitted by email or by mail.
By Email:
You may initiate a request for information by emailing your written request to foi.privacy@lcbo.com. Once your email is received, a member of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Office will review your request and provide you with next steps and instructions to arrange your payment for the $5 application fee.
By Mail:
