While there is much debate over the origin of the Margarita, the most viable version is a simple, perfectly balanced 1-1-1 recipe created by Daniel Negrete in 1936.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 1 oz 100 percent agave tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, 1 oz fresh lime juice. Shake and strain into a salt rimmed rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
