La Crema Chardonnay 2014
This is a very attractive chardonnay that features purity of fruit, lovely acidity, and excellent integration and harmony. The fruit itself is a delicious feature of the wine. It has depth and weight but carries itself lightly. The acidity is broad-based rather than linear and sharp-edged, but it's no less effective in contributing to the drinkability and food-fitness of the wine. As for the oak (five month in French barrels, 15% new) it's exceptionally well handled here. A hint of toastiness in the aromas and flavours, just enough to add interest, not enough to detract from the purity. Drink this any time from now and the next three or four years to appreciate its freshness. Score - 5 stars (out of 5). (Rod Phillips,, May 24, 2016)
