Organic Products

The LCBO offers consumers a selection of more than 100 organic and biodynamically produced wines, beers and spirits. How do consumers know if a product that says “organic” on the label actually is?

The LCBO’s QA department ensures all products sold by the LCBO and labeled with an organic claim comply with the Canadian Organic Regulations. This is a two-step process:

1. The LCBO requests and reviews the organic certificate for the particular product to confirm that it complies with the Canadian Organic Regulations.

2. The LCBO tests the product to ensure it meets the Canadian organic limits for approved additives and preservatives, in addition to checking that no pesticide residues are present.

This testing program verifies that products that claim to be “organic” truly are. Read more at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
