New York Strip Loins with Ontario Heirloom Tomatoes

New York Strip Loins


6 New York strip loin steaks, room temperature
1 tsp per side dark mushroom soy sauce
Black pepper


  1. Rub soy sauce on each side of the strip loins along with a generous sprinkling of black pepper.
  2. Preheat grill on high (425°F) and place steaks on the grill. Make sure not to crowd the steaks, leaving at least two inches of space all around.
  3. For medium rare: If the steaks are a standard 1 1/2 inches thick, grill for 5 minutes, then flip and cook another 3-4 minutes on the other side. Let rest at least 4 minutes before serving and top with Ontario Heirloom Salsa.

Ontario Heirloom Salsa


3 medium heirloom tomatoes, assorted colours, diced, juices reserved
1 small red onion, small dice
3 cloves garlic, finely diced
1 bunch Italian parsley, finely chopped
2 tbsp French capers
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
2-3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Place all prepared ingredients in a bowl and toss. Cover and refrigerate for an hour.
  2. Bring to room temperature before serving over steak.
