Pairing Beer with Cheese

When it comes to pairing cheese, wine usually springs to mind. We say switch up your go-to by matching cheese with a fantastic brew. The guidelines for pairing are the same. Choose a beer that complements the cheese’s characteristics — including aroma, body and flavour. For instance, couple pungent aged cheese with an aromatic, full-bodied stout or pick a crisp, delicate lager to go with subtle fresh cheese. Also play with contrasts: light and airy beer carbonation can cut through intensely rich, buttery triple-crème fromage beautifully. A little experimentation may reveal some exciting flavour combinations, so next time you set out a cheese plate, be sure to pour a cold one.
